Craig Vetter, owner of Vetter Design Works, is an illustrious transportation designer and entrepreneur. He graduated from the University of Illinois – Champaign-Urbana in 1965 with a degree in Industrial Design and immediately began his entrepreneurial career. Vetter created the Vetter Fairing Company, which became known for the renowned “Windjammer” fairing and eventually became the second largest motorcycle industry manufacturer in the United States. In the early 1980s, Vetter turned his attention to fuel economy and sponsored the Craig Vetter Fuel Economy Challenge. In 1998, his “Vetter Rocket 3” design of 1969 became the Triumph Hurricane of 1973 and was selected for display in the Guggenheim Museum’s The Art of the Motorcycle exhibition. Bike Magazine named the Hurricane as one of the 100 best motorcycle designs of all time. Other Vetter motorcycle designs include the Bonneville TT, Terraplane sidecar and the Mystery Ship. Vetter scooter designs include the Defiant and Torpedo and a series of Streamliners. Vetter has been awarded over 20 US patents and/or trademarks and today and was inducted into the American Motorcyclist Association’s Motorcycle Hall of Fame.
